The Central Muscle Cars competitor joins the category in the 2014 championship-winning 1970 Ford Mustang prepared by Fataz Competition Engines for its first appearance of the season at the ‘Paperclip’
“I’m just really looking forward to coming back over to Australia and racing a muscle car on treaded tyres instead of slicks, it is a lot more fun,” Wigston said.
“I would like to thank Woody (Ian Woodward) for putting it all together, it is a great series with some really good drivers involved.”
Fataz Competition Engines team owner Ian Woodward said the addition of Wigston to the grid will add to the Trans-Tasman rivalry the series enjoys.
“It is great to have one of the Central Muscle Cars competitors join our series for a few rounds this year,” Woodward said.
“We hope to keep building on our Trans-Tasman relationship into the future.”
Three race wins for Shannon O’Brien gave him the series lead after the opening round of the season at Lakeside Park, while Trans-Am debutant Cam Wilson also claimed a maiden race win in the Slideways Go Karting Australia Chevrolet Camaro.
Ford Mustang driver Daniel Fleming sealed a clean sweep of the weekend in the Sportsman Series ahead of New Zealander Tony Rutherford, while Gareth Jones and Mike Collins shared the honours in the 5 Litre Classics Series with two wins apiece.
