Ron Prefontaine

A long time car enthusiast, Ron has been keen on sports cars as far back in 1971 when, as a 19 year old, he purchased a 1966 GT Mustang V8 4 speed convertible. Later he owned several British cars including a MGB GT and Triumph GT6. A career and family meant family cars and no racing until he purchased three Lotus Elise cup cars in 2008. Together with his oldest son John, Ron commenced competitive car racing in hill climbs winning the under 2 Litre class at Mount Cotton and Noosa Hill climbs.

Starting in 2011, Ron and John raced their Lotus Cup Elises, a Lotus Exige and a Turbo MX-5 in Production sports cars 2F and 2B classes for a number of years clocking up multiple podiums. In 2016, Ron bought a new Trans Am built Mustang Coupe and commenced racing in the Australian Trans Am series wining the 5 Litre classic class in 2017 and 2020.

Ron is a keen owner of sports cars which currently includes a Mclaren 650S Spyder, GT40 and Cobra kit cars plus an Audi R8 GT coupe. In 2022 he completed the Targa Tasmania Tour in his Mclaren.
